Air Source Heat Pump Servicing: What We Checked on a Panasonic System

Heat pump serviced, coil cleaned, leaves cleared, valves checked and service records completed. That is the short version of a recent Central Heating Hub visit to a Panasonic air-to-water heat pump. Here is what the work involved.

Panasonic outdoor air-to-water heat pump serviced by Central Heating Hub

The system we serviced

The outdoor unit was a Panasonic WH-MDC05J3E5 monobloc air-to-water heat pump. The installation also included a hot-water cylinder and a radiator heating system. This article records the work completed on this particular visit; the service requirements for another system may differ.

Clearing leaves and cleaning the outdoor coil

We removed autumn leaves and debris from around the outdoor unit, then cleaned the outdoor coil using professional coil cleaner and rinsed it thoroughly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

The aim was to keep the air path clear and remove the build-up of debris and retained moisture. No before-and-after efficiency measurements were taken, so we are not attaching an energy-saving figure to the cleaning.

Radiators and the indoor hot-water system

We checked the radiators, bled trapped air and balanced the heating system. We also checked the unvented hot-water cylinder and safety valves, and tested and checked the expansion vessel.

These are distinct parts of the work. Cleaning the outdoor unit alone does not describe a check of the radiators, cylinder or associated components.

Recording the service

We completed the Panasonic manufacturer's service record and the CHH service paperwork. The manufacturer's booklet contains CHH service entries for November 2025 and October 2026, providing a record of ongoing maintenance.

This visit is described as servicing. A service record should not be confused with an installation commissioning report or MCS certification.

What to send when booking a heat-pump service

Please send your postcode, equipment make and model, any fault code, and a short description of the work you need. Photos of the outdoor unit, controller and associated cylinder can help us prepare. Let us know about access restrictions so the visit can be planned appropriately.

Follow your manufacturer's maintenance schedule and warranty conditions. We will confirm the scope, availability and cost before booking, and discuss any additional work before proceeding.

Heat-pump servicing questions

Is air-to-water the same as air-source?

Air-source describes where the heat comes from. An air-to-water heat pump transfers that heat into a water-based heating system, such as radiators or underfloor heating. Air-to-air systems deliver warm air indoors. This visit involved an air-to-water system.

Do you only take Panasonic enquiries?

This article shows a Panasonic system because it is the equipment we worked on during this visit. Our experience also includes a Mitsubishi installation carried out around 2016. For another make, send Central Heating Hub the manufacturer, model and postcode. We will confirm whether we can support your equipment and agree the work before booking.

Does a heat-pump service include the cylinder and radiators?

Ask for the scope when booking. This particular visit included radiator checks, bleeding and balancing, checks to the unvented hot-water cylinder and safety valves, and an expansion-vessel test and check. The work required depends on the system and its condition.

How often should I arrange servicing?

Follow your equipment manufacturer's service schedule and warranty terms. The Panasonic service booklet for this system recommends yearly servicing and completion of the appropriate service record. Keep your records available for the engineer.

What helps us assess a breakdown enquiry?

Include your postcode, make and model, any displayed fault code, and whether you have lost heating, hot water or both. A clear photograph of the unit and its controller can help us assess the enquiry. We will confirm availability, scope and costs before a booking is agreed.
